This photo was received from Julia [McIngvale] Stout in August,
1995.
Received from Mark Buffler on March 4, 1996: "The photo was taken sometime during the
summer/fall of 1949. There is no record of the exact date. The house in the
rear of the picture is Ed Rasch's house. I remember the house well. It was
a rather large, grand looking, two storey house topped with a tower. The
inside contained lots of rich oak wood. There was a beautiful, ornately
carved staircase leading to the second level. A large porch wrapped
completely around the house. I used to climb up into the tower to look over
the distant countryside. The house was lit with gas. Not natural gas but
with carbide gas from a generator in the rear of the house. At some point
the gas lights gave way to electricity. Water came from a well house. There
was also a large barn which is out of sight on the right side of the picture.
The house was located in St. Florian near the intersection of the main
highway and the church road. My Aunt Teresa lived alone in the house until
her death. I remember visiting her often. She made the best lemonade I have
ever tasted. The house was vacant until the late seventies when it was torn
down to make way for another house owned by a doctor."
