Notes:
Arrived in the US with family on May 19, 1852. Became a naturalized
U.S. citizen in 1856.

He ran a hotel in Grand Rapids, MI, for a while.  It is possible he was
part owner of "The Rasch House."  Apparently he was joint owner of another
piece of property in Grand Rapids, known as "The German-English
Schoolhouse" with Alois and Julius Rasch.  In 1880 the school was forced
to close for financial reasons, the title was conveyed to Joseph
Jacoboice, who soon adapted the building to manufacturing.  Dorothy Glick
remembers her Uncle Robert in very dark suits ... and hard candies for them
in his pockets.  The 1870 Census has his occupation listed as wagonmaker, the
value of his real estate was $8000, and the value of his personal property
was $5000. His birthplace was Prussia, and his parents were "foreign born".
