When his mother died in 1880 Frank was only 8 years old. He was so upset that the family would find him every afternoon about dusk crying at the cemetary at his mother's grave. His oldest brother, Paul, who was a Capucian priest in Michigan or Wisconsin, said that he would like to take his youngest brother "up north". He was accompanied by his father on the trip. The young Frank went to school under his brother's supervision for several years. He returned to Alabama when he was in his teens. Married in old St. Michael' s Church by Rev. Severn (O.S.P); (Pictures) witnessed by Martin Specher, Rudolph Langer, Mary Noggler, & Julia Rasch. They lived at 'The Bend of the River' where he worked in lumbering and sawmilling. In the early 1900's they purchased about 200 acres of land southwest of St. Florian. There he built an impressive two story house. They moved into the home in 1912, where their two youngest children, Charles and Dorothy, were born. They became members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Florence. He installed a 'delco plant' for lights, and water was pumped into an elevated tank, first by a windmill and later by a 'ram' pump in the spring near by. In the early days he operated a small lumber mill and grocery store across the road from the house. Later these enterprises were replaced by three rent houses. Besides the regular barns there was one for storing grain.
